President’s Report Greetings to all! 2019 is rapidly drawing to a close. I am sure you all are very busy wrapping up the year both at work and home.
At our November meeting a new board was elected. In December we had our first board meeting. Your officers for 2020 are Vice President Jay Keller, Treasurer Gary Shields and John Lowe is now our Secretary. Please make sure that you let these men and all of the board members know that you appreciate their efforts. I know I certainly do as President.
At our meeting there was a lot of discussion and enthusiasm for ideas of what we can do as an organization. I really appreciate the energy that was at the meeting and in follow up planning. Jay has taken the initiative to do outreach to get ideas on what you as members would like to see happen. Hopefully you have been able to take time to share your thoughts. If not please do so.
One of our goals are to work to provide education. How can we provide that to you? First is by your attendance at the meeting. The amount of knowledge and contacts are endless. If you have a question there is probably someone there that knows the answer or knows who to ask. We are also working to provide speakers that appeal to the audience. If you know someone who can do a presentation at our meeting please contact one of the board members.
Another goal is to provide fellowship and professional networking in a low key setting. Our meeting is a time to relax and enjoy our peers company. It is not a time for working out disputes. Those situations will arise during the year but are to be dealt with during the work day, not at our meeting.
We also hope to provide a welcoming setting for young people in our industry. Invite that energetic employee who would benefit from talking to other professionals. If you know someone who might like to attend get their name, phone number and email to Jay. He will make sure they are included on all correspondence. And then follow up with again to see if they got the email. Eventually they will come and hopefully will see the benefits of joining.
Lastly the board voted to continue MAEMA’s support of The AACPS’s Center for Applied Technology diesel program. To that end we provide a tool stipend for the top three finishers of the Skills USA competition. In addition we will provide a scholarship for a student that will be continuing education after high school. Moving forward the scholarship will be named the Bill Cyford Memorial Scholarship in recognition of all the work Bill did to support young people starting in the industry.
Thank you all for your support this past year and I am looking forward to 2020.
For all of the board I want to wish you and your family a wonderful Holiday Season and a Happy New Year.
Sincerely, Brian Pickett
